Modern Motocross is controlled
by a number of affiliations. The AMCA
is one of two major groups and will welcome potential riders
in a friendly and helping manner.
To start you will need
to be is at least 9years old and have full parental/guardian
help. Adults who wish to participate are also very welcome.
Either way, if you are new to the sport, we would recommend
you come to a Thursday night meeting and talk to us. This
way you will fully understand the requirements and costs.
The meetings are in the The
Whyte Melville in Boughton in the main bar from 8pm.
It is more of a social meeting rather than a structured
session and the Secretary will be sat at a table taking
bookings for future fixtures.
If the rider is under
18 you will certainly need a designated Adult with you and
it is probably best if you, or a helper, have a basic mechanical
knowledge. You will however find that we are a very friendly
bunch and help each other out – except of course during
the race!
You will be grouped by
experience. If the rider is over 9 and under 15 years you
will commence in the “INTER JUNIORS”. Bikes
will be restricted to 85cc 2 stroke or 150cc 4 stroke.
Progression occurs
by a points system. During a days racing there will normally
be 3 races and if you are the overall winner after the days
racing you will collect 4 points. Second will give 3 points
etc and once you have collected 12 points you will move
up to the next group. Thus if you came 1st (overall) on
3 separate race days you would be moved to the next group.
The order of groups are INTER JUNIOR, JUNIOR, SENIOR then
EXPERT. After Experts and if you are really enthusiastic
you may join the AMCA Championships or “Masters”
with riders from all over England. To fully understand all
the rules go to the AMCA web site. Click on “downloads”
and take a copy of the AMCA rule book.
Except
for 9 to 14 year olds the bikes used will normally be:
125cc (to 144cc) 2 strokes
or 250cc 4 strokes which are considered to be similar power
output and grouped into races known as MX2
250cc 2 strokes or 450cc
4 strokes which are considered to be similar power output
and grouped into races known as MX1.
The above is a generalisation,
but form the vast majority of motorbikes used for modern
motocross. The make of bikes will normally be KTM, Suzuki,
Honda, Kawasaki or Yamaha however occasionally less well
known makes will be seen. For example TM is an Italian make
that will be favoured by a few riders.
We
are a club run by volunteers and this means a few rules
which can be read by clicking on Club Rules
